There’s Really Only One Standard That Democrats Have

There's a particular kind of shamelessness that has become a hallmark of the modern Democratic Party. They don’t exactly call attention to it, but they don’t even do a good job of hiding it, either. It often sneaks in through the fine print and always puts them at odds with some of their biggest policy positions.

The pattern keeps repeating itself.

Democrats hate school choice for others but opt for private education for their own kids. They push for sweeping climate restrictions while maintaining lifestyles built on private travel and excess energy use. They oppose gun ownership and push anti-police rhetoric while relying on personal security details. They enforced strict COVID pandemic restrictions that they wouldn’t follow themselves. The same party that rails against wealth inequality tends to enjoy its own luxurious lifestyle. On immigration, they champion open policies until the consequences land in their own cities.

The pattern goes on and on.

It has become almost a political cliché at this point — if Democrats didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards at all. For years, the party that screams "voter suppression" at the mere mention of showing an ID to vote has required photo ID to enter its own national conventions. New York City's Zohran Mamdani came under fire recently for requiring multiple forms of ID under the city's Emergency Snow Shoveler program. Gerrymandering? Good when they do it, bad when Republicans do it. Every time a new example surfaces, Democrats dismiss it and move on to the next.

The latest one is a doozy. The Obama Foundation is offering a sweepstakes for two tickets to the invite-only Grand Opening Ceremony of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago on June 18, 2026. Sounds exciting. But now read the fine print. The promotion is open only to "individual United States citizens and lawful permanent U.S. residents who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, and over the age of 18.” The winner must also provide proof of identity as the authorized account holder of the email used to enter, and a valid taxpayer identification number or Social Security number, before any prize is awarded.

So to attend Barack Obama's library party, you need to prove you're an American citizen. Good to know citizenship matters for something.

Meanwhile, Obama has been loudly campaigning against the SAVE America Act — a bill that requires proof of citizenship and a photo ID to register to vote in federal elections.

"Why do we have stricter standards for the Obama library than for voting?" Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany asked Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas).

The answer is obvious.

"Well, because Democrats would like to allow non-citizens to vote in American elections," he said.

There really is no clean rebuttal to this accusation. The Democrats' war on election integrity has never been about protecting voters. It has been about protecting their preferred outcome at the ballot box. The hypocrisy proves it. There is no pretending it is a coincidence. The Obama Presidential Center sweepstakes didn't just expose a talking point; it exposed the entire game.
